About The Event

In 2018, the photographer Gilbert McCarragher, a friend and neighbour of artist, filmmaker and gay activist Derek Jarman, was asked to record the house in Dungeness that Jarman and his partner Keith Collins had called home.

This home is Prospect Cottage, a vital artwork in its own right, and it was the first time this private world had been so extensively chronicled. Unfolding room by room, McCarragher's photographs are accompanied by reflective essays that take the reader inside Prospect Cottage, revealing something of its history and his experience of photographing there.

In partnership with Thames & Hudson publishers, we are honoured and thrilled to welcome Gilbert McCarragher to Belfast Exposed to launch his book in Northern Ireland. Coinciding with world Pride month and ahead of our Pride exhibition for 2024, we will hear from Gilbert regarding his work.

Prospect Cottage: Derek Jarman's House is a follow up to Thames & Hudson's hugely popular Derek Jarman's Garden.
