Senior Curator Karen Downey leaves Belfast Exposed for new role at Arts Council Ireland.
Karen Downey has been with Belfast Exposed since 2000 and during this time has been fundamental in cementing Belfast Exposed’s reputation as an organization dedicated to exhibiting, commissioning and publishing the best of local and international photography.
Major exhibitions include Northern Ireland: 30 Years of Photography (2013) in partnership with The Mac, and solo exhibitions by Allan Sekula and Hans-Peter Feldmann. She has commissioned and produced many exhibitions of new work by contemporary artists including Nicky Bird, Sylvia Grace Borda, Mark Curran, John Duncan, Melanie Friend, Anthony Haughey, Kai-Olaf Hesse, Claudio Hils, Allan Hughes, Daniel Jewesbury, Dragana Jurisic, Anthony Luvera, Mary McIntyre, Aisling O’Beirn and Michelle Sank.
Karen also developed publishing partnerships between Belfast Exposed and UK and international publishers including Photoworks, Ffotogallery, Hatje Cantz, Steidl, Edition Braus and Expose Verlag.
Karen will be greatly missed by the Belfast Exposed team and we wish her all the best for her new role as Project Manager at Arts Council Ireland.
