Mourners at Julia Hughes' funeral. Julia Hughes, a 21 year old university student became one of 29 victims of a bomb planted in Omagh, County Tyrone by the Real IRA, on 20 August 1998. The explosion killed 29 people, all civilians, and occurred on a busy Saturday afternoon, 40 minutes after two inaccurate telephone warnings made to a UTV newsroom and the Samaritans in Coleraine. The Omagh bomb provoked international outrage.
