The Roma Community

Community Partner: B.E.L.B Inclusion Unit - facilitated by Mervyn Smyth - 30 April to 23 July 2013

This 10-week project used digital photography to enable a group of young men from the Roma community to explore their sense of place, hopes and ambitions. The project was delivered in partnership with B.E.L.B Inclusion Unit and was facilitated by Belfast Exposed community artist Mervyn Smyth.

Over the 10 weeks participants developed their digital photography skills while exploring their changing cultural life, living in Belfast. The group explored and reflected upon the community in which they live. As many of the group had language barriers they were able to use the visual form of photography to express their views.

The group are currently curating an exhibition of the images that they had taken during the project. This exhibition will be held later in the year.
