Shankill All Stars

Community Partner: Shankill All Stars - facilitated by Mervyn Smyth - 26 February to 12 March 2013

This 3-week project used digital photography to enable a group of young women to explore how women are represented by the media.  The project was delivered in partnership with the Shankill young women’s group, Shankill All Stars, and was facilitated by Belfast Exposed Community Photography Coordinator Mervyn Smyth who worked alongside community worker Carlene Carlisle.

Over the 3 weeks participants explored how women are represented in photographs and print. The programme looked at stereotypes and misrepresentations of women by the media. The group then used digital photography to create their own representations of themselves as young women living in Belfast.

The Shankill All Stars are an inclusive group, open to all young women from West and North Belfast.
