Living in the moment
Community Partner: Mullan Mews, Sydenham Court, Clanmill - Facilitated by Mervyn Smyth - 1 April to 24 April 2014
Living in the moment is a collaboration between Belfast Exposed and a group of tenants from Mullan Mews and Sydenham Court, the exhibition is a showcase of the work undertaken in a photography project from September 2012 – February 2013.
The aim of the visual arts and photography project was about living in the moment. The project looked for opportunities to bring out qualities the participants have, but which may be masked by dementia. The group visited heritage buildings, art galleries and museums in the Belfast area.
The photography element of the programme engaged the group in different mediums of photography. They used the equipment, expertise and printing facilities at Belfast Exposed to explore various techniques including use of pinhole cameras as well as black & white, and digital photography. Through these workshops the group developed a broad understanding and new skills in relation to traditional and digital photography. This new skills will form a different way to communicate to each other and to a wider audience. Working as a group also helps combat isolation and develops a sense of social cohesion.
