Call For Participants: LGBTQ Visions of Peace
Saturday 1st April 17 - Saturday 13th May 17
We warmly extend a call for participants in the performance and photography elements of our ‘LGBTQ Visions of Peace’ project. The project aims to give LGBTQ people voice and recognition in envisaging what a peaceful society would and/or should look like. It also gives participants the opportunity to tell their stories about growing up in Northern Ireland during the political conflict and during the post-Agreement phase.
The project is funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) and led by Dr Fidelma Ashe (University of Ulster) together with Dr Catherine Gander and Dr Stefanie Lehner (both Queen’s University, Belfast).
The photography and performance workshops will be hosted and facilitated by experienced professionals at Belfast Exposed (artist, educator & writer Anthony Luvera) and TheatreofplucK. They are designed to generate a range of creative and discursive practices to give voice, visibility and reach to representative LGBTQ visions of peace. Participants will learn a range of techniques and styles in order to find those best suited to their individual and collaborative expression. The creative outcomes of the workshops will be disseminated in a touring theatre performance and a photography exhibition.
Participants will select to take part in either the photography or performance workshops. Previous experience is not essential!
The workshops are free of charge and take place over the following weekends:
· Photography workshops on 1-2 April; 29-30 April; and 13-14 May.
· Performance workshops on 1-2 April; 22-23 April; and 29-30 April.
All costs are covered: travel, parking, accommodation in Belfast overnight if required, refreshments and lunch are all provided, and childcare is available on request.
